About Me

Sandra McCartney

Personal

Central to my approach is the quality and importance of our working relationship and my ability to attune, respect, understand and respond to your experiences.  I am committed to providing a safe, confidential and supportive space to help you resolve your personal challenges.  I draw on a wide range of psychological approaches including Integrative, Psychodynamic, Object Relations and Body psychotherapy.  However, my primary approach is Transactional Analysis (TA). TA is a model for understanding ourselves and how we communicate and relate to others.  In beginning to understand ourselves and the ways in which we may be continuing to re-play painful and self-defeating childhood strategies in our adult life, we can begin to move into a healthy relationship with ourselves and others.

Experience

I have more that 17 years experience of supporting adults to make personal change.  For the last 10 years I have worked within the NHS delivering psychotherapy and psychological support in a variety of settings within Adult Mental Health Services. I continue to work as a psychotherapist within the NHS alongside my private practice.  I have experience of working with a range of interpersonal difficulties and conditions.

Qualifications

I am a Certified Transactional Analyst Psychotherapist and I hold an MSc in TA Psychotherapy.  Alongside this, I have also trained as an Integrative Psychotherapist.

I have undertaken 2 years training in Somatic Trauma Therapy with Babette Rothschild author of The Body Remembers.  I aim to work holistically, recognising the complex interplay between the body and the mind.

My qualifications include:

Certified Transactional Analyst with Psychotherapy Specialism CTA (P)
Master of Science (MSc) in TA Psychotherapy
BA in English
Post Graduate Certificate in Education PGCE (Further Education)
Diploma in Social Work (DipSW)
Certificate in Brief Therapy (utilising TA, CBT & Solution Focused Therapy).

Ethics
